ConceptPark Profile
  Gondwana Sperrgebiet Rand Park
In the 510 km² nature reserve west of Aus a unique flora is created by three overlapping desert systems: the Succulent Karoo (the most bio-diverse desert on earth), the Nama Karoo and the Dune Namib. Granite mountains of the Great Escarpment, dry riverbeds and vast plains are the main features of the landscape. Furthermore, Gondwana Sperrgebiet Rand Park adjoins the area where the Wild Horses of the Namib can be found.

The nature reserve is owned by the Swiegers family who also runs the accommodation facilities of the Klein-Aus Vista Collection: Desert Horse Inn (14 rooms, restaurant, sundeck), Eagles Nest Lodge (eight chalets with bathroom, kitchenette and fireplace), 'Geisterschlucht' Dormitories (shared bathroom, kitchen and veranda with barbecue site) and a camping site.

Five well-marked trails take hikers through mountainous scenery and plains. Guests can take part in scenic drives, watch the Wild Horses at their watering place at Garub (20 km, tar road) or visit the deserted former diamond settlement of Kolmanskuppe (90 km, tar road).

The accommodation facilities generate the funds needed for nature protection and at the same time create jobs and offer Namibians a chance for advancement.

Shaped like a horseshoe, the Gondwana Desert Route connects Gondwana Cañon Park with the other three parks of the Gondwana Desert Collection.

Discover the delights of the desert - with the Gondwana Desert Collection from Park to Park through Namibia’s south.
